Caravan Tyre Pressure Calculator Australia
Enter your van's loaded weight, tow ball weight and tyre ratings and you'll have a sensible cold starting pressure in seconds. Set it before you leave. SAVR watches it once you're rolling.
Indicative only. Your tyre placard, the tyre maker's load tables and a weighbridge always win over any calculator.
Your caravan
Estimated cold tyre pressure
This is an estimate to get you in the right zone. Check it against your placard and the tyre maker's load table, and get professional advice if anything looks marginal.
Pressure moves once you're towing
Speed, heat, load and road surface all shift your pressures within the first hour on the road. SAVR shows every tyre on your car and van live on your phone or Apple CarPlay, and speaks up through the stereo the moment one starts dropping. No extra screen. Nothing to watch.

How the caravan tyre pressure calculator works
It takes your loaded caravan weight, subtracts the tow ball weight (your tow vehicle carries that), and splits what's left across the tyres on the road. That gives a load per tyre. It then scales the sidewall maximum pressure to match how much of the tyre's rated load you're actually using.
Put simply: a tyre carrying 70% of its rated load gets roughly 70% of its maximum pressure as a cold starting point. It's the same logic behind most tyre load and inflation tables, just done for you.
Caravan tyre pressure chart by load
Where your load per tyre sits against the tyre's rating, and what that usually means for cold pressure.
| Load per tyre (% of tyre max load) | Cold PSI (% of sidewall max) | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 55 to 65% | About 55 to 65% | Lightly loaded. Still check the tyre maker's chart. |
| 66 to 75% | About 66 to 75% | Typical touring range for most vans. |
| 76 to 85% | About 76 to 85% | Working the tyres. Keep an eye on heat and wear. |
| 86 to 90% | About 86 to 90% | Close to capacity. Drive conservatively and monitor. |
| Over 90% | Over 90% | At the tyre's limit. Get professional advice. |
Indicative only. It shows how pressure scales with load, not a recommendation for your specific tyre.
Caravan tyre pressure chart by setup
| Caravan setup | Typical cold PSI | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Light single axle caravan | 35 to 45 PSI | Starting guide only. Confirm with the placard. |
| Heavier single axle caravan | 45 to 60 PSI | Check axle loads and tyre ratings before you go. |
| Tandem axle caravan | 40 to 55 PSI | Use weighbridge figures if you can get them. |
| Heavy off-road caravan | 50 to 65+ PSI | Road surface and speed will shift the final number. |
Indicative only. General starting points, not a substitute for the manufacturer's guidance.
Underinflated vs overinflated caravan tyres
Underinflated tyres flex more, run hotter and chew out the shoulders. Heat is what kills caravan tyres, and underinflation is the fastest way to build it. Overinflated tyres ride harder, wear the centre of the tread and give you less grip. The aim is a cold pressure that matches the real load, then keeping it there.
Gravel, corrugations and sand
On sealed roads, most owners run placard or load-table pressures. On gravel and corrugations, some drop a few PSI to soften the ride and protect the van, but only with lower speed and a close eye on tyre temperature. Sand and beach pressures depend heavily on your setup, so get advice specific to your rig and keep speeds down.
Why live tyre pressure monitoring matters when towing
A calculator gets you to a good cold pressure. It can't tell you the van's rear left picked up a screw 200 km ago and has been dropping ever since. You won't feel a caravan tyre going down from the driver's seat. By the time you do, the damage is usually done.
SAVR is a Bluetooth TPMS built for towing. Sensors screw onto the valves in minutes, and the app on your phone does the rest.
- Live pressure and temperature for every tyre on the car and the van
- Voice alerts through your phone or car stereo the moment a tyre drops or overheats
- Works with Apple CarPlay, so your tyres sit right on the dash
- No extra screen or wiring. Just your phone
- Stackable packs for single, tandem and tri-axle vans, with spares if you want them
- 2-year warranty. Australian owned and supported, with real people on chat, phone and text

Frequently asked questions
There's no single number for every van. Start with the placard and the tyre maker's load table, then use your real loaded weight and tyre rating to land on a cold starting pressure. Most caravans end up somewhere between 45 and 65 PSI.
Cold, before you drive. Pressures rise as the tyres warm up, so a hot reading is not your baseline.
No. The placard and the tyre manufacturer's tables are the authority for your tyre and caravan combination. This tool gets you close, fast.
Tyres build heat as they roll, and heat raises pressure. Speed, load, road surface and the outside temperature all play a part. A rise of a few PSI is normal. One tyre climbing well above the others is not.
One per tyre on the road, plus spares if you want them monitored. A single axle van needs 2, tandem needs 4, tri-axle needs 6. Most tandem setups run the 8-sensor pack so the tow vehicle is covered too.
Yes. The calculator sets your starting point. TPMS tells you what's happening to it once you're on the road, which is when tyres actually fail.
Set it cold. SAVR the journey.
Use the calculator to get your starting pressure right, then let SAVR keep watch on every tyre while you tow. Slow leaks, heat and pressure drops, spotted early.
